Terms

The web downloader is a free tool, offered as it is, without any promise that it works for a given video or at a given time. Sites change, and a download that worked yesterday may not work today.

You are responsible for what you download. Videos belong to the people who made them, and most sites' terms limit downloading. Download only what you have the right to keep: your own uploads, videos their owners allow you to save, or what the law where you live permits. Do not use the site to share, sell or republish someone else's work.

The site reads only public videos. It does not get around sign-ins, paywalls or copy protection, and it refuses live streams until they end.

The site stores no videos: a file passes through the server to the person who asked for it, and a joined file is deleted minutes after it is sent. There is no library of downloads to take anything down from. If you own a video and want this site to refuse its link, open an issue on GitHub with the link and how you hold the rights, and the link will be blocked.

Privacy

  • There are no accounts, no advertising and no tracking scripts.
  • The link you paste goes to the download server, which reads the video with yt-dlp. The qualities it finds stay in the server's memory for 30 minutes so the download buttons work; nothing is written to a database.
  • A joined file is kept on the server's disk until your browser fetches it, at most 10 minutes, and deleted 2 minutes after the last request for it.
  • Like any web server, the download server's access log records your IP address and which of its own addresses was called. The video link is not in it.
  • The video's thumbnail is loaded by your browser from the video's own site, without telling it which page you were on.
  • Before the first look-up, Cloudflare Turnstile checks that a person is using the page; most visitors see nothing. Cloudflare handles that check under its own privacy policy. The pass it leads to is kept in the page for 30 minutes and holds nothing about you.
  • The site remembers your light or dark choice in your browser's storage, and nothing else.

The Downpipe app runs on your computer and does not send your downloads or links to any server of the project. Its source is on GitHub.
